Rough & Ready Park- 21st & Alpine in Longmont, CO Grand Opening Ceremonies Scheduled for Friday, October 28th 2005 at 5:30pm The different elements in the park include a new teen skate area, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, bocce ball and horseshoe courts, a multi-use play field, a walking labyrinth, a crawdad exploration area, an off leash dog exercise area, two play bays with traditional swings and other non-traditional play equipment, an irrigation pond, and a beautiful art piece (done by Tim Upham from Fort Collins) in the pond. The design was based on a natural, passive theme with representations of that theme found throughout the design. The eastern portion of the park was dedicated to more passive recreation, with the labyrinth and bocce ball and horseshoe courts grouped together. There are several soft-surface walking paths and native grass areas border the eastern and western edges of the park. The pond is shaped like a bird and the sculpture in the pond incorporates diamonds shaped like birds and moving water that provides natural sounds for park users. The large shelter features 4 tables and a grill, while the small shelter includes 2 tables and a grill. The park is located along, and named after, the Rough & Ready Ditch primary greenway. This ditch was appropriated on March 13, 1869 and formed the Pleasant Valley Reservoir (June 1871), which is now known as Terry Lake . It is one of Longmont 's oldest irrigation ditches. Please come join us in the park for food, music and fun and to congratulate the public design committee, the designers and the contractors on their hard work over the past several years and to enjoy your new neighborhood park.
